Golden Road Area

Ueda City
Shinshu Ueda is known as a place with ties to the Sanada clan, and is home to many historical sites, including Ueda Castle. Shiodaira is also known as the "Kamakura of Shinshu," as it is dotted with temples and shrines.
About a 10-minute walk from Ueda Castle is Yanagimachi, a section of the old Hokkoku Kaido road that retains the atmosphere of a post town. It is a gourmet spot where you can sample local sake and wine, as well as local delicacies like Shinshu soba and delicious yakitori.

Komoro City
Komoro City is a "highland castle town" rich in tourism resources that make use of its history and nature. Komoro Castle Ruins Nostalgia Park is the remains of a rare "cave castle" (a castle with a hole in the grounds), known nationwide as a famous spot for cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. The park is also home to Komoro City Zoo, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026. At Komoro-juku on the Hokkoku Kaido road, which retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, merchant houses and wakihonjin (side headquarters) buildings remain, making it a great place to enjoy a historical stroll. Furthermore, on the Takamine Plateau, overlooking the majestic Mount Asama, you can enjoy cool trekking even in summer, viewing alpine plants, hot springs, and more, all while immersing yourself in the rich natural environment. Wine grape cultivation is also thriving, and you can also enjoy touring wineries.

Tomi City
Unnojuku, located in Tomi City, is a post town along the Hokkoku Kaido road and has been selected as one of the "100 Best Roads of Japan." The Edo period inn-style buildings and the silkworm farming houses built during the Meiji period, when silkworm farming was popular, blend together to preserve the historical landscape, which has led to the area being designated an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The irrigation canal that runs down the center of the road and the quiet townscape give visitors a sense of the warmth of the past.
Tomi City, which overlooks Mount Asama and Yunomaru Highlands, is also known as a renowned grape-producing region, with wineries and vineyards scattered throughout the town. With seasonal flowers, trekking, and winter skiing at Yunomaru Highlands, the city is known as a tourist destination where you can enjoy history, nature, and food.
